Tophane

New is a relative term in Istambul. Much of what you will see here, dates from the 19th century and so is this stylized lamp. Honoring the skills in metalworking of Turkish artisans,  the modern Tophane suspension lamp mixes brass arms with directional aluminum lacquered shades.

This contemporary lighting piece simultaneously reminds us of the typical Turkish hats as well as the cannons, once made on this old industrial district, currently the home of the Tophane-i Amire Culture.
